Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey has been informed that a €2.1 million upgrade of the sewer network in Shannon should be completed within the next sixteen weeks.
Deputy Carey said that the project being undertaken by Irish Water and Clare County Council is being carried out using non-dig technology to reduce impacts to residents, the general public, businesses, schools and to minimise traffic disruption.
The work involves a CCTV survey of the sewer network to determine their condition and the extent of defects, with 8.5 km of pipelines surveyed to date.
Around seven kilometres of sewers will be repaired and the network is being cleaned to remove any blockages caused by inappropriate items such as wet wipes, cotton pads, fats, oils and greases etc).
“I have been told by Irish Water that the project is on-going and the sewer upgrade work is scheduled for completion this summer,” Deputy Carey explained.
“The upgrade works will clean and identify any structural defects as well as reducing the likelihood of sewer collapses and blockages. It will reduce potential sewer flooding and odour issues and improve the performance level of the sewer network.
