CLARE Fine Gael TD Joe Carey has confirmed that €15,852 has been allocated to upgrade the Tir na nÓg playground in Shannon Town from this year’s Play and Recreation Capital Funding Scheme.
“The Shannon playground refurbishment was one of 30 projects from all over the country which shared in an overall fund of €450,000 to provide wheelchair accessible swings, sensory equipment and inclusive play units,” Deputy Carey explained.
“A key criteria of the scheme is that the projects must be accessible and inclusive for all children. Other factors include the added value of each project to young people and assurances regarding the safety of facilities.
“The purpose of the scheme is to support refurbishment of play and recreation amenities to include the provision of new equipment, the refurbishment of existing play facilities, with an emphasis on natural play areas,” Deputy Carey added.
