I have received confirmation from Minister of State Brian Hayes that funding from the OPW will be released for flood relief works in Corofin.
I welcome the news that €99,000 is to be allocated to Clare County Council for additional flood defence works at Roughan, Kilnaboy in Corofin. Included in these works will be the addition of a new 750mm pipe and an increase to embankments around dwelling houses.
Partly, these monies are a result of the severe damage caused in parts of County Clare in recent winters, and in particular in areas prone to flooding. The funding committed to Corofin will compliment ongoing commitments in
relation to flood studies and other flood relief schemes ongoing throughout County
Clare at present.
In fact to date, the OPW has confirmed that they have allocated almost €800,000 to various flood mitigation schemes in the County. I would like to draw attention to the fact that it is still open to Local Authorities to submit further applications for funding and all applications that meet the relevant eligibility criteria will be considered, having regard to the overall resources available.
This significant announcement in relation to Corofin represents a major investment in the County, and ensures we continue to prepare for any future flooding related issues.
