“These latest allocations confirm the Government’s continuing prioritisation of capital funding for school buildings which will enhance the learning and working environment for pupils and teachers,” Deputy Carey said.
“After announcing that 307 schools across the country will receive more than €40 million for Summer Works projects, Education Minister Joe McHugh told me that eight primary and two post-primary schools in Clare will receive funding for major improvement works.
“The money will go towards structural improvements at Cratloe NS; Rockmount NS, Miltown Malbay and Scoil Cluain An Atha, Inagh as well as the replacement of windows at Liscannor NS; St Conaire’s NS, Shannon; St Aidan’s NS, Shannon; Scoil Realt na Mara, Kilkee; Scoil Na Mainistreach Quin, Mary Immaculate Secondary School, Lisdoonvarna and St Michael’s Community College, Kilmihil.
“It is great that this funding is being allocated now as it will give schools more time to prepare for the planned works. The works will be carried out mainly over the summer months in order to keep disruption to students, teachers and other to a minimum,” Deputy Carey explained.
“There will be further announcements in the new year for schools that applied for funding for external works such as upgrading and resurfacing of yards and car parking. Given the scale of these projects, further detailed analysis is required with a view to enabling approved applications to proceed in 2020.
“A further round of the Summer Works Scheme, which will open for applications in early 2019 for projects to be delivered from summer 2020,” Deputy Carey added.
