Carey & Crowe combine to ensure O’Garney River is cleaned
Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey together with local Sixmilebridge Fine Gael Cllr. John Crowe have combined to ensure that the Owen O’Garney River, Sixmilebridge is cleaned and maintained this year.
Deputy Carey said
” Last November County Clare was hit with unprecedented rainfall which resulted in devastating floods which caused shocking damage to homes, businesses and communities. The bridge in Sixmilebrige came under pressure from rising flood waters so much so that Clare County Council had to close it off to pedestrian’s and motorists. Over the past few months my colleague Cllr. John Crowe and I have been making a case to Dr. Martin Mansergh, Minister of State at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for the OPW to have the river cleaned and maintained. I am delighted with the most recent response issued from the Minister which confirms that the river is scheduled for routine maintenance by the Office of Public Works this year.”
Cllr. Crowe said
“This is great news for Sixmilebridge. The local Fishing Club had been in touch with me asking if I could organise for the river to be cleaned and maintained. The work planned by the OPW will compliment the clean-up which I am currently organising in conjunction with the Environment Section of Clare Co. Council that takes place next Saturday the 10th July from the Greyhound Bar to Killeen Graveyard and all are welcome to give a hand. “
