Carey says upcoming election candidates must take a stand on bankers
Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey has said today that Clare’s confirmed Fianna Fáil candidate in the upcoming General Election, Deputy Timmy Dooley, should give his opinion on the meeting between Brian Cowen and the directors of Anglo Irish Bank.
Deputy Carey said that the public in County Clare have a right to know where Fianna Fáil stand on the cosy relationship between the party and those who have brought this economy to its knees.
He pointed to the fact that many Fianna Fáil deputies have indicated that they no longer support Taoiseach Brian Cowen and that this option is open to Deputy Dooley.
Deputy Carey said:
“I think the public are sick to their teeth hearing about revelation after revelation week after week. The latest one shows just how cosy a relationship Fianna Fáil had with the bankers who have almost bankrupted this country. The details, like many others have had to be dragged out of the Taoiseach, and thanks to the work of two journalists in the Sunday Times we now have a clearer picture of the events leading up to the bank guarantee.
What we now know is that eight weeks before Fianna Fáil mortgaged this country and made every citizen liable for the debts of reckless bankers, that the Taoiseach Brian Cowen spent seven hours golfing and socialising with Seanie Fitzpatrick.
